My Garden: the summer of 2011

The garden on Mom's birthday is quite wild this year. Artichokes were quick to go-to-seed, that is bloom. Lots of eating artichokes early in the spring, but as soon as the heat picked up, their leaves spread out and you know they are going to bloom. Funny thing is they turned sort of a purple-red on the outer leaves this year. Why? Don't know.

In the early stages of bloom they look like the have crew cuts.

And the hollyhocks are spectacular this year. And they're all gypsies!

The white monster is taking over the garden.

These are digger pine cones that came with me from my last residence. That poor tree was cut down for having the audacity of losing a limb. I hope a seed or two plants itself here.

Then we can lounge on our steamers and watch it grow.
