The Longest Night of the Year

Merry Solstice Everyone!
Once there were joyous happenings all over the world on this day. Perhaps the festival was worked into a religion, but I think it started with those who lived off the land. From today forward the days get longer (in the northern hemisphere) and the crops will grow again. And it's cold in the north too, which is a good excuse to get together to eat and sing by the fire.

Tomorrow is the first day of winter. Will it snow? Will it rain? Or will we need to water the lawn? Or will all the water run out? I suppose if we live a few more years, we'll see what global warming has in store for us.

For now though, I raise my cup in cheer. Onward to The New Year!
